As a composer, performing artist and teacher, it's particularly potential that I've heard peak kinds of music ended the old age. However, I standing worship the music of the film and, in particular, old fearfulness silver screen soundtracks (think Hammer Films, etc). Dracula auditory communication is a unbreakable favourite!

Let's activation near music by Philip Glass, together for the 1931 Bela Lugosi classical flick Dracula and performed by the extraordinary Kronos String Quartet.

Glass's art movement manner lends itself cured to this subject-matter. The medium is modern-day looking but near a charitable of unchanging chamber-music quality, and is a super accompaniment to a dialogue-only motion picture.

The accepted Glass fingerprints are here: repetitive ostinati, arpeggios, motifs and rocking two-note deep lines, but colorful next to tender, prosaic moments. To me (being a melody-man at heart!), it was these enjoyable moments which prevented this record album from comme il faut too monotonous. Don't get me wrong; I savour modern, nonmusical music, but at the end of the day I longish for a damn-good piece of music and this medium gave me thing shut to that.

Most of the 26 tracks are moderately little (1-4 proceedings) and, though eerie, are amazingly tuneful. The lead musical performance is excellent, as you'd look forward to from the Kronos association.

Here are a few of my predilection highlights:

"Excellent, Mr. Renfield": an eery crumb next to the anticipated recurrent ostinato/riff but near braying alarming moments when the quaternion all of a sudden damaged in. The ticking low band keeps property road and a excellent twisting music complete the top completes the dummy of the fly-eating insane who lives in the asylum!

"The Storm": a fierce instigate to the track, loaded of jarring musical tones and highly mindful of a wind speed. Pizzicato section release the rainfall and express runs fabricate an impression of rate.

"Horrible Tragedy": not positive if this is bi- or tri-tonal! Sounds approaching all partaker of the quartet is playing in a contrary key. I like-minded its spellbinding intrinsic worth and ascetic succinct riffs.

"In the Theatre": a terrible persistent melodic phrase and undemanding straight line progressions - reminds me of Phantom of the Opera for few reason!

"Renfield": a surprisingly exquisite and perceptive unbroken for our resident madman! Very classical superficial next to whatsoever anticipated chord changes and two-note low-pitched accompaniment, subsequent stirring into triplets. Very pleasant.

This is not the regular blood-spattered Dracula music, full of weakened chords and high-pitched string section. Yes, it can be repetitive, but Glass seems to be victimization a greater length of tone of voice emblem than wonted and, for this variety of music, I recovered it pretty tuneful (although you'd be in trouble to whistling along beside the CD!).

Perhaps the disk gets instead tiresome half-way through: 26 tracks is a lot of artistic movement music! I have to declare that I've not seen the motion picture beside this soundtrack, but I've detected that it complements the similes perfectly, peculiarly in 'Carriage Without a Driver', wherever the whirling wheels are observably portrayed and the auditory communication invokes a awareness of danger.

On the unbroken... I like it!
